This is the second post in a series on the Royal Costumes of the House of Hohenzollern. The Hohenzollern royal costume influenced me as a kid, via fictional uniforms clearly modeled on the Hohenzollern flavor. I remember wondering why it was that I saw simplified versions of this uniform everywhere (Disney, fairy tales, etc.), but I had no idea what the simplified uniform was referencing. Was the uniform a shared fantasy?

Nope. The Hohenzollerns were the heads of the German Empire, replacing the Holy Roman Empire, a territory previously ruled by the Hapsburgs (rulers of the Austrian and Spanish Empires). The Hohenzollerns sat on the throne of Germany until the end of World War 1, at which point the German Empire gave way to the Weimar Republic, and then to Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich.

This post focuses on those who were not members of the House of Hohenzollern, but were influential in other ways - in some cases more influential than the royals, like Otto von Bismarck.
