I really, really appreciate all the positive feedback on this picture. It surprised me. I want to write about the experience (It was all pretty meaningful to me), but I won’t take up space under the picture with it.

I’m making myself brainstorm ladies for my other comic so I don’t run into the same problem my current comic has. I’m just not in the habit of thinking about cool lady characters which is shameful. So let’s kick this habit ahead of time. Need a cool name for her. Thinking Annabelle or something like that. She’s a commander and at some point becomes the leader of a resistance cell in an occupied country.
Also maybe I should sit down and create a concrete structure for Keadra’s armed forces since so many characters are military. Design insignia and uniform colors that denote rank and so on. That sounds like so much I’m not being sarcastic that’s like my idea of a GOOD TIME.

The Hohenzollern royal costume influenced me as a kid, via fictional uniforms clearly modeled on the Hohenzollern flavor. I remember wondering why it was that I saw simplified versions of this uniform everywhere (Disney, fairy tales, etc.), but I had no idea what the simplified uniform was referencing. Was the uniform a shared fantasy?
Nope. The Hohenzollerns were the heads of the German Empire, replacing the Holy Roman Empire, a territory previously ruled by the Hapsburgs (rulers of the Austrian and Spanish Empires). The Hohenzollerns sat on the throne of Germany until the end of World War 1, at which point the German Empire gave way to the Weimar Republic, and then to Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich.
This post is about Wilhelm II (Frederick William Victor Albert), the last Emperor of the German Empire. Wilhelm II went into exile at the end of World War 1.

I’m disappointed by the seas of lazy character designers that slap different heraldry on Nazi uniforms and act like they did something, but I’ve never been able to resist those sweet-ass books of uniform illustrations through the ages.
